The process of tempering glass somewhat resembles the tempering of steel. The glass is first heated until it reaches a plastic state, after which it cools rapidly. Its inner layers cool much more slowly than the outer ones, which leads to the occurrence of residual compressive stresses. They give the glass a higher temperature resistance and durability.

If you hit a tempered glass, it is broken in the same way as usual, but its fragments are much safer. In addition, the number of small pieces of material strictly complies with current standards. For example, if a hammer with a weight of 75 grams hit a sheet of tempered glass, then it should form at least 40 fragments 100x100 millimeters in size or at least 160 pieces with parameters 50x50 millimeters. The greatest danger, as you know, is carried by the edges of the glass; therefore, strikes on it should be avoided in every way.
