 Matting technology
Matting is a fairly economical and ergonomic way to handle glass or mirrors. With this technology, it is possible not only to give the surface new characteristics (protection from sunlight, less visibility and durability), but also to create a unique decor.

Materials for matting

For the implementation of specific technology for matting it is also necessary to select the appropriate accompanying materials, including:

• matting paste;
• grinding wheels;
• sand blasting;
• hydrofluoric acid;
• matting film;
• laser apparatus, etc.

Modern equipment and materials allow this type of processing to be carried out in several ways, which depend on the laboriousness of the operation, its goals and the scope of work with glass production.

Matting technology

Of the most common and efficient technologies, there are:

1. Matting the surface using acid-containing agents. The main varieties of the constituent substances can be: hydrofluoric acid, ammonium bifluoride or ammonium fluoride. The method consists in direct acid etching, after which aging and subsequent washing are necessary. Using this method requires the utmost compliance with safety standards and appropriate working conditions.

2. Surface treatment using sand blasting equipment. Under the influence of a powerful air flow with abrasive particles of quartz sand on the surface of the glass or mirror creates a matte finish, characterized by roughness. The relief can be made of any thickness, which greatly expands the possibilities of processing. Using this method also differs in speed, allowing you to produce large amounts of work.

3. Chemical chemistry. The technology involves the use of special pastes, which, without significant intervention on the surface, create the necessary coating. This technology is also used when decorating glass products with patterns and drawings. The use of paste does not require any additional funds and specialized equipment.

4. Matting film is one of the easiest ways to make a surface dull. In addition, it serves for additional protection of products, heat insulation and toning. It can be used as a material for full matting, or to create a decor by cutting out the necessary patterns.

5. Laser technology. To date, equipment for carrying out such a method is one of the most expensive. However, it has a lot of advantageous features. One of them is the versatility of the apparatus, which, when setting the relevant parameters, can produce both matting, and engraving, and cutting. Another advantage is the high speed of work.

6. The method of firing coating. To perform it, a special tool is applied to the surface, which becomes matte under the influence of heat treatment. This technology involves the installation of special equipment - firing furnaces. In comparison with the chemical method, this is less dangerous, since there is no toxic vapor and waste. This technology is widely used in the creation of dishes, lamps and stained glass windows.

Since glass and mirrors today are used in many areas, such processing methods allow you to create unique products that are popular among consumers and increase the competitiveness of glass-processing enterprises.
